Our mission statement is to Enjoy-Develop-Compete. Regardless of what age or stage of player you are, as coaches we will strive to help you achieve your potential through our philosophy of Enjoy-Develop-Compete.
We treat all players with equal respect, with a growing programme of players, some players will require more connected time with our team in-order to reach their individual targets.
In order to excel at this difficult sport, i would encourage all players to be self-learners, practice as much as they can outside of squad and 1-2-1 lesson times and look to have regular match-play and learn from your match experiences. Head Coach Phil
Following yesterday’s message i wanted to clarify the positioning of the tennis programme for the rest of this season.
Given the current environment and the strong likelihood that no group coaching will take place before September, that membership levels are likely to remain below to previous years and the lack of team tennis, I have had to make the very difficult decision to restructure my business to ensure it remains a sustainable proposition.
The coaching programme will until further notice be operating with just myself as the clubs full-time head coach.
Once I establish a database of enough interested clients who wish to have 1-2-1 weekly or fortnightly lessons, only then will I be able to offer my assistant Tom some hours.
This will be reviewed should government guidance change on group activities.
I hope you can all renew your memberships when its feasible for you, and if you would like to be added onto the 1-2-1 database for lessons then please contact myself. I hope we can get enough keen members who want to have regular lessons so that I can once again build my business & incorporate Tom into it.
Adult coaching & team tennis
We run twice a week adult cardio sessions, both on Saturday 9-10 & 10-11am. These sessions are hugely popular and are set up on a whats app group with a first come first served basis of only 10 per session. I plan to host a mid-week cardio when the spring arrives.
Rusty rackets is also popular and will again be up and running once the spring arrives, normally this session is Wednesday evening 8-9pm.
Pre-season team tennis is in it’s second yer and has proved to be excellent for all who attends. The idea is to get captains and players alike together in late jan, feb and march for a 90 minute session per team to establish doubles pairings, doubles strategy / tactics and to keep players playing through the winter into the spring. Our teams in 2019 all did great in local summer leagues and many such as Ladies 1, Mens 1, Mens 3, Mens 5 all gained promotion. This year we are having a Mens 7th team which will have many of our promising junior boys involved alongside a few wise heads.
The Radyr Tennis Academy has 3 tiers to the overall junior programme.
All coaching enquiries for squad sessions or individual lessons must go through Head Coach Phil.
Tier 1 is academy & teenage club academy where players enjoy playing once or so per week & the basic fundamentals will be taught.
Tier 2 are academy futures are players who treat their tennis a little more seriously as they may have a weekly 1-2-1 lesson, and play in 1-2 squads a week. Academy future players will have the opportunity to compete internally & externally in match-play.
Tier 3 is academy performance is for players who train 3-4 times a week in squad, have regular 1-2-1 lessons and compete at county / national events all year round.
We offer an inclusive all year round tennis academy for members of the club. The programme runs six days a week for players of all ages & abilities.
All squads run in line with the academic term dates. 60 minute squad sessions are £6.00 per session, 75 minute sessions are £7.50 per session, 90 minute sessions are £9 per session, and all squads are paid for as a block by week 2 of that term, We maintain a healthy ratio of 1 to 8 coach to pupils in our squad sessions with a level 1 assistant or tennis leader on standby to help support the lead coaches.
If a session is cancelled due to really poor conditions then only one cancelled session will be refunded and added onto the following term for free.
For fast-track improvement then I recommend individual lessons with any of our team of coaches.
Prices for Individual lessons -Head Coach Phil £25 per hour / Senior Coach Tom £22 per hour / Assistant Coaches Jon -Ross -Emily are all £22 per hour. 30 minute pro-hits with Rhys, Dan, Harri are £7 per 30 minutes.
In half-terms we host junior development & performance camps that are 9am-3pm and they contain a mix of technical basket drills, afternoon match-play and fun games.
Within year one we have a popular performance strand of about a dozen to fifteen talented junior players, these players train 3-4 times a week at the club with the Performance programme and all of them will play for Radyr in team tennis.
Our youngest players are the “little aces” who have weekly indoors or outdoors sessions where they take their first steps on their tennis journey.
